About
To honor those that suffered and died during the Holocaust and T4 Aktion, PeaceWalkers are now researching and designing a new Peace Path to honor the victims of those that were persecuted by the hands of the Third Reich. It is important to note that the new European Peace Walk will be apolitical and has no other motivation other than the solemn remembrance of the millions that died during T4 Aktion and the Holocaust.
The new European Peace Walk will be permanent, open all year round and free to walk. The walkway itself will be signed and marked and open for all to walk along. PeaceWalkers will make an accompanying Guidebook for the Walkway with its partners Peace Museum Vienna and with support from International Centre for Education on Auschwitz and the Holocaust, so that Youth and Walkers are informed correctly on the history of the Holocaust.
Currently, we have three possible Routes planned that are all rich in natural beauty, culture and history. This summer we will choose the optimal route through Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland and make it into a permanent fixture. The possibility of starting the Walkway from Budapest, Hungary and following the Danube into Bratislava (an extra 220kms) will be researched too.

T4 Aktion was the prelude to the Holocaust, where men, women and children with physical and mental disabilities were shamefully executed across the Reich. After T4 Aktion, the Holocaust ensued and its horrors spread across Europe. Peoples from all corners of Europe found themselves facing persecution, enslavement and murder. In Auschwitz alone, 1.1 million people were slaughtered, primarily Jewish, but also, Roma and Sinti, Prisoners of War, Jehovah Witnesses and many other so-called "undesirables".
Youth should be empowered to become ambassadors of this memory, to recall the story of survivors and to raise awareness of the Holocaust. We at PeaceWalkers Ireland, envision people from all across the globe, from all walks of life and of all ages walking together along the European Peace Walk in harmony, unity and peace every summer to remember and honour the victims of the Holocaust.
